How to use it
- 1
Paste the URL of one language version.
- 2
WebDiag collects link rel=alternate hreflang from static HTML.
- 3
Review language-code validity, x-default, duplicates, and self-reference.
What the tool can do
- Checks x-default, self-reference, and duplicate hreflang values.
- Normalizes relative href values against the final URL.
- Shows html lang as an additional contextual signal.
Common use cases
- Check international landing pages before release.
- Find duplicated en/en-US or invalid language-region codes.
- Check x-default for a global language selector.
How it works inside
Language tag validation is intentionally structural; search reciprocity rules require a future crawler batch.
The tool does not request every alternate href to avoid becoming a crawler.
Questions and answers
Does a single-language site need hreflang?
Usually no. The tool is useful for sites with multiple languages or regions.
Why is reciprocal validation not here?
Because that requires crawling a URL set. It belongs in crawler/job infrastructure with limits and history.
